5th Annual MLK365 Beer Summit: A Continuing Conversation on Race Relations

A conversation you don't want to miss!

MLK365 started this initiative five years ago in response to the arrest of Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates by Cambridge Police Sergeant James Crowley. Gates was later invited by President Obama along with Sergeant Crowley to discuss the incident over beer at the White House.

During this incident, MLK 365 organized a Beer Summit in Center City to gather citizens to discuss race relations in Philadelphia and throughout the country.  MLK365 will be continuing this discussion on Tuesday, July 30, 2013.

MLK365 will be hosting a workshop in Camden, NJ on Tuesday, July, 23, 2013. Global Citizen launched the community workshop series in order to focus on building community leadership and community involvement through civic engagement. Workshops share best practices in civic leadership in addition to guiding participants on how to address community needs.

The workshop will be held at the Cathedral Kitchen located on 1514 Federal Street in Camden, NJ from 1pm-2pm.

Global Citizen’s MLK365 has a ton of events for this month to help celebrate the power of citizen engagement. MLK365 will once again be partnering with the Philadelphia chapter of the AFL-VIO and the Philly Rising Collaborative another clean-up. Through community involvement and service initiatives, MLK365 promotes sustainable civic engagement and positive opportunities for Philadelphia’s youth.

A discussion on politics and America's democratic process

Global Citizen is partnering with the Bipartisan Policy Center’s (BPC) Commission on Political Reform for “A National Conversation on American Unity” public service program on July 22-23 at the National Constitution Center.

The conversation will bring together former elected officials, community, and business leaders to discuss ways Americans are serving their country, current barriers to participation in elective politics, and will analyze how political polarization is discouraging citizens from engaging in the democratic process.
