August 28th will mark the 50th anniversary of the historic March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered one of the most important speeches in American history- “I Have a Dream.”

On Saturday, October 19th, 2013, District Attorney R. Seth Williams will be hosting the First Annual Women & Children’s Safety & Violence Prevention Summit. This is a free public forum for women and children. This summit aims to provide an open forum to discuss safety, domestic violence issues, and ways to prevent violence. Workshop topics include domestic violence, internet safety, personal safety, and more.

5th Annual MLK365 Beer Summit: A Continuing Conversation on Race Relations

A conversation you don't want to miss!

MLK365 started this initiative five years ago in response to the arrest of Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates by Cambridge Police Sergeant James Crowley. Gates was later invited by President Obama along with Sergeant Crowley to discuss the incident over beer at the White House.

During this incident, MLK 365 organized a Beer Summit in Center City to gather citizens to discuss race relations in Philadelphia and throughout the country.  MLK365 will be continuing this discussion on Tuesday, July 30, 2013.

MLK365 will be having another Summer Crush Clean-Up on Saturday, July 13, 2013. If you missed last month’s clean-up, here is another opportunity to get involved!

Global Citizen’s MLK365 has a ton of events for this month to help celebrate the power of citizen engagement. MLK365 will once again be partnering with the Philadelphia chapter of the AFL-VIO and the Philly Rising Collaborative another clean-up. Through community involvement and service initiatives, MLK365 promotes sustainable civic engagement and positive opportunities for Philadelphia’s youth.

X-Offenders for Community Empowerment Forum

Our program partner X-Offenders for Community Empowerment (XCE) is having a forum on the upcoming May 2013 Primaries on Wednesday, May 15th, 2013. This will be an important conversation especially for people who have been formerly incarcerated and convicted.

XCE’s mission is to empower formerly convicted people to become agents of change in helping the community address important issues threatening a healthy family and community life. They aim to reduce recidivism by providing educational services as well as by advocating for issues that affect those who have been incarcerated.
