As a part of Mayor Michael A. Nutter’s Have a Fun, Safe Philly Summer initiative, the second annual Summer Kickoff will be held on Tuesday, May 21st, 2013.

The Summer Kickoff is a way for kids and parents to find out about all the summer programs Philadelphia has to offer. Activities include a chess tournament, art activities, Zumba, a basketball clinic, Rita’s Water Ice and many more! In addition, high school students have an opportunity to get college prep information.

On Thursday, May 23rd, 2013, Philadelphia’s Mural Arts Program will be hosting their ninth annual Wall Ball Fundraiser. This event will feature live entertainment, silent auctions, and art-making with special guest Julius “Dr. J” Erving!

Mural Arts is a unique non-profit organization that unities artists with communities to transform neighborhoods into a work of art through the mural-making process.  They offer a wide variety of educational programs for people throughout the City of Philadelphia.

Our program partner X-Offenders for Community Empowerment (XCE) is having a forum on the upcoming May 2013 Primaries on Wednesday, May 15th, 2013. This will be an important conversation especially for people who have been formerly incarcerated and convicted.

XCE’s mission is to empower formerly convicted people to become agents of change in helping the community address important issues threatening a healthy family and community life. They aim to reduce recidivism by providing educational services as well as by advocating for issues that affect those who have been incarcerated.
