Location:
Brown's Family Shoprite
24th Oregon Avenue
Philadelphia, PA 19145

For 31 years, Urban Affairs Coalition (UAC) has worked with community groups, churches and elected officials to provide some of Philadelphia’s most needy families with a Thanksgiving dinner. Last year UAC with partners Brown’s Shoprite distributed 1,000 baskets, feeding 6,000 individuals. Due to an increased demand, this year’s goal is to feed 1,100 families. In the past, costs of matching funds have been supported by the Department of Community and Economic Development; however, these funds are no longer available so UAC is asking for your help in the fight against hunger. On Saturday, November 22nd, volunteers from across the city will assemble the Thanksgiving baskets for distribution. Last year, 100 volunteers gather to stuff 1,000 baskets in only 58 minutes.

A press conference about the Thanksgiving Basket Program will be held at the Shoprite of Oregon Avenue on Monday, November 24th beginning at 9am. Paul Brauer, Vice President of Brown’s Super Stores Inc., Sharmain Matlock-Turner, President and CEO of UAC and other community leaders will discuss the impact and the importance of this vital program. Immediately following the press conference, a group of volunteers begin distributing the baskets.
