Position Details
Program Summary: 

This position is part of a seasonal team responsible for the Urban Affairs Coalition’s Summer Youth Employment program, which provides paid summer job opportunities and support to youth ages 14-18 through WorkReady Philadelphia. The six week program runs from July through mid-August and includes career exposure, on-the-job mentoring and professional development. In 2018, UAC anticipates serving 1,500 youth.

The Worksite Specialist will function as a Job Developer, responsible for identifying, recruiting, and signing up work locations for the youth program participants. The Worksite Specialist may also assist youth with the program application process and with interview preparation and job placement.  Worksite recruitment and participant placement will be completed by the end of April. The Worksite Specialist may apply to transition to a Program Mentor role for July and August.

This is a seasonal position beginning in March and ending in May.

Position Summary: 


  • Research and identify suitable potential worksites, in coordination with program leadership;
  • Contact identified worksites to discuss program benefits and secure an agreement to host youth interns;
  • Visit identified worksites to complete a Worksite Agreement and related paperwork and determine the safety and suitability of the worksite;
  • Compile and maintain an accurate list of potential worksites, status of outreach, and next steps;
  • Inform worksites of program details, orientation dates, and worksite requirements;
  • May assist youth applicants with interview prep and job placement, as needed’
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Sales Ability – Ability to effectively network with others and influence them to provide opportunities to youth program participants;
  • Ability to coordinate with professionals from different backgrounds, working at different levels;
  • Knowledge in human resource management and recruitment procedures;
  • Skilled at establishing public relations and building up employment network;
  • Familiar with a variety of professions, its responsibilities and the required qualifications;
  • Good organization skills and detail-oriented;
  • Strong inquiry and conflict resolution skills;
  • Must be able to multi-task while meeting programmatic benchmarks and deadlines;
  • Must be willing to travel frequently throughout the Philadelphia area as required on a daily basis;
  • Must be willing to work some non-traditional hours, as needed;
Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 



  • High school diploma/GED required; Bachelor’s degree preferred;
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience working in one of the following roles: sales, marketing, or human resources;
  • Experience mentoring and/or teaching youth and young adults ages 14-18 preferred;
  • A working knowledge of the Philadelphia area business and non-profit communities preferred;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel preferred.
