Save Summer Jobs for Youth: Major Disaster to Hit Philadelphia!

Date:
April 21, 2014

Thousands of youth employed last summer are at risk of NOT receiving employment this year. Predictions for summer 2014 show that slightly more than 4,000 WorkReady summer jobs will be available for youth. Last year, more than 18,000 youth applied for WorkReady summer jobs, but only 7,600 were served.

Here is how you can help:

  • Hire or sponsor a WorkReady youth for this summer at www.pyninc.org/employer
  • Contact your elected officials
  • Spread the word through your professional and social networks using the hashtag #PHLSummerJobs and follow @UACoalition on Twitter.

Studies show that youth who miss out on an early work experience are more likely to endure later unemployment and are less likely to achieve higher levels of career attainment. The Coalition needs your support more than ever to save summer jobs for our youth!Click here to read UAC President's Inquirer Op-Ed

The WorkReady Summer Youth Employment Program is designed to intervene in the lives of at-risk youth and put them on track to becoming productive students and valuable members of their community. Please lend your support to this initiative to provide students a summer filled with hands-on internship experiences that will have lasting effects on their academic and profession trajectory.
