UAC Announces Jojy Varghese as Director of CED

Born and raised in Philadelphia, Jojy Varghese has dedicated himself towards the betterment of his hometown and strives to implement innovative and effective policies and initiatives here in the city. A graduate of Central High School, Penn State University and the University of Pennsylvania, Jojy has spent the beginning of his career in management consulting, focusing on program support for large scale transformational projects, serving both public sector and commercial clients locally here at Accenture and in DC with Booz Allen Hamilton. As a Senior Consultant with Booz Allen, Jojy provided analytical services on the development of strategies for Federal government clients that have been instrumental in reforming healthcare and IT governance.

After earning his Masters from the Fels Institute of Government, Jojy was selected to be Chief of Staff for PA State Rep. Tony Payton Jr, bringing a widely diverse range of experiences and strategies to the 179th Legislative District, serving the lower Northeast and parts of North Philadelphia. Jojy has worked in numerous departments within the City of Philadelphia, starting in the late 90s as an intern for then Mayor Rendell. He currently serves on the Board of the American Lung Association along with The Lighthouse in Kensington, as well as various steering committees and civic associations throughout the city. In 2012, he completed the Political Leaders Fellowship with the Center for Progressive Leadership. Prior to accepting the role with the Urban Affairs Coalition, Jojy worked for the Mayor of Reading, PA as the City's first ever Director of Housing and Real Estate.

In his free time, Jojy is an avid reader and cyclist. In his freer time, he consumes quality Netflix offerings in binge-worthy fashion. He is very excited to be back home in Philly and grateful for the opportunity to work alongside so many talented and committed mission-driven colleagues at the Coalition.
