Philadelphia’s 2015 Summer Youth Employment (SYE) Summer Jobs Challenge is in full effect and is expected to increase youth employment opportunities with expanding jobs, employers, partners and investors connected to the Philadelphia WorkReady Program.

In light of this service initiative, we asked UAC employees to share their first employment experience and offer insightful advice to youth across the city. Here are some of the highlights from our interview with UAC Summer Youth Employment Program Manager, Kate Rivera.

“My first job as a newspaper delivery person was exciting. I was 15 years old. I would wake up early every morning for seven days a week and deliver newspapers on foot. From this experience, I learned how important planning and time management was for school and work life balance. My advice to youth is that it is never too early to think about the future. Your high school decisions affect you for the rest of your life. Everyone starts somewhere do no strive for perfection when you are looking for your first job.”

Summer Youth Employment is absolutely critical to the future of this city. It starts youth on the path to success. Do your job as a citizen of Philadelphia and join UAC as we fight for our youth! Advocate for summer youth employment in Philadelphia because #SummerJobsMatter.
